Full course description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of guiding principles of ethics in the responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI). Participants will explore various approaches to designing ethical AI systems while examining common ethical pitfalls such as bias, unintended consequences, and privacy violations. The course emphasizes the importance of ethical frameworks, including human-centered AI, transparency, fairness, autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and privacy, to help participants navigate the complexities of AI development. Throughout the course, participants will learn to describe the role of responsible AI in promoting societal good and examine the crucial role ethics play in building trustworthy AI solutions. They will distinguish and describe different principles of ethical AI and analyze various ethical dilemmas using frameworks like bioethics, Kantian ethics, virtue ethics, and utilitarianism. The course also focuses on the importance of interpretability in AI models, the risks associated with data breaches, and the potential consequences of privacy violations. Participants will be equipped to formulate plans for ensuring the ethical use of AI, both during development and post-deployment. Additionally, they will learn to establish and critique AI ethics codes for individuals and organizations, ensuring a responsible and ethical approach to AI in practice.
